Image Quality and Opinion

I am wondering about expectations as the generations of camera’s are evolving. How we are starting to expect perfect images with little to no work. Technique is one aspect, but if you are looking for perfection off the sensor, then shoot Jpeg and adjust your picture styles to your liking, and work on technique. Again this is all opinion and conjecture. Just wondering how people bias’s are effecting the quality of the reviews or of their opinions?

This is my opinion on some reviews that are circulating about Canon’s new 7D. People seem bent on comparing images at the pixel level, with no up-scaling or down-scaling. I think each of us have a preconceived notion on performance improvement of newer camera bodies (DSLR’s). We need to almost step back and try to be a little more unbiased when reviewing a newer product.

Just my 2 cents.

My Go Bag

Ok, so I went out and got myself a “Go Bag”. What’s a “Go Bag” you ask? Well it’s is or now is my bag that I will be taking with me everywhere. Lets me hold my most needed gear for daily shooting. Generally it will hold my body, 17-55 2.8 IS and my speed light. I picked up a Crumpler 5-Million Dollar Home (5MDH)shoulder bag from Vistek in Ottawa. If you are looking for a good local camera store I find Vistek to be top notch in Ottawa.

The 5-Million Dollar Home, comfortably holds all the above gear, and I can even sub out the speed light for my 70-200. The bag is made of a durable nylon, and the interior is a tacky material designed to be soft, and not damage or scratch your gear. I’d feel comfortable leaving off the lens cap when I tuck the cam in.

Here it is. As always my Poppy. As you can see there are a good number of fasteners to keep it closed and my contents safe.

So the image as you can see it’s black, makes it look inconspicuous, however the Crumpler dude logo gives it away, for those in the know! The inside opens up and has two removable dividers that separate and keep the gear snug.

Best part about the bag is the flap. It’s all just one piece that holds the gear. No multiple layers, with a flap than a zipper then, well you get the picture. There is a mesh pocket on the top for holding some small bits of kit. I put in my extra battery, however it’s a bit heavy, and flops down to the bottom. I’d not want to put anything much heavier up there. Maybe a remote release cord or something.

So you can see here the divider. There is another that is obscured by the flap at the bottom of the shot. You can see the 70-200 tucked in on the other side. This will fit as well my 580EX II speed light. Glad to know both bits of kit fit if need be.

Here is a better shot of the inside. You can see the second divider folded down allowing support for the grip portion of the camera body. I at first though a smaller 4-Million Dollar Home (4MHD) would work, but not after I tested it out did I find that the 4MDH is way too small. This 5MDH fit the bill.

In this final shot you can just see the front pocket. Not much room for anything other than maybe your cell, some extra memory cards, and an extra battery. I think it will be perfect for what I need. I’ll follow up with this mini-overview in the coming weeks, and let you all know how it’s holding up. Time to work up the shoulder muscles!

Go bag?

I’m sitting here contemplating a new bag for my gear. I have been thinking of a crumpler’s 4-million dollar home to hold my 50D and my 17-55 and flash. I’m gonna try one out tomorrow. Just needs to be something small and light that isn’t too conspicuous and I can take it anywhere. I’ll report more tomorrow.

It’s a bit older, but none the less it’s a beautiful shot. We came upon this scene walking through the grounds at Chateau Montebello in Montebello, Quebec. It was breath taking, and the smell, the smell of fall was so pungent, it felt great to be outside.

New photo blog

First post and first day of my new photo blog. Here I will share my photo’s and my opinions about photography, and the industry. I am not a professional, I am not linked to any manufacturer. I am my own person, and this is the way I see my photographic inspired world. Add my blog, blog about my blog, tweet this. This is my resolution.

This was inspired by a few of my favourite blogs. The first and foremost is Jeffrey Friedl and his photo blog. I am no where near the status or education that most have, but I am a voracious self learner, and quite outspoken. Please leave comments, and I will try my best to answer them.

Most of all enjoy the photo’s that I take and I hope that one day I inspire someone to take up photography just as I and millions of others have.
